For this assignment you will have to choose one film from Italy and analyze it with respect to a particular cinematic tradition (e.g., if it’s a German film, give a short overview of German cinema first, and then proceed with your film analysis). Your theoretical film analysis should rely on at least two concepts that have been introduced during the semester (e.g., such concepts as “transnational cinema,” “counter-cinema,” “Third Cinema,” “minor cinema,” “intercultural cinema,” “non-cinema,” “imperfect cinema,” “peripheral cinema,” “accented cinema,” “mythopoetic cinema,” etc). In your analysis you should refer to specific articles we have read, name theoreticians, and introduce their ideas. Overall, your research paper should address the major topics of our seminar with respect to this film; i.e., embrace the questions of global/transnational film through the prism of assigned theoretical readings. In your discussion, you should refer to four sources from the assigned course materials (please see attached sources to be used in the paper), in addition to at least two/three print sources beyond the syllabus.
