Unit IV Reflection Paper
After reading this chapter, you can see that discretion is a large part of an officer’s job. Officers must constantly think on
their feet and make decisions, frequently without their supervisor or anyone else assisting them.
In this assignment, you will be focusing on officer discretion and placing yourself in the shoes of officers. Think about thechapter and lesson as you do this assignment

For your final course in criminal justice, you will create a research question that you will then investigate further. To assist you in this task, review the following list of current research topics covered in each course. Choose one of those topics (or another topic covered in this course) and create one to three research questions based on that topic. Then submit the questions to your instructor.
This research question assignment is graded based on completion, and instructor feedback should help you strengthen your questions for future use. After you have submitted the questions to your instructor, upload them (and the list of potential topics below, if you wish) to your ePortfolio PDF.
For more information on creating research questions, refer to this research resource from the Library. This page also has a helpful FAQ section on research-question creation and expectations that you may want to explore further.

Wk 5 – Plan for Delivery of Service and Re-entry [due Mon]
Throughout this course, you have learned about the signs and symptoms of mental illness and how mental illness affects the forensic population. Now it is time to tie it all together with interventions, along with how mental illness can affect recidivism. This assignment will help you to understand best practices when working with someone with a mental illness in the forensic population and how to assist them with re-entry into society.
Select a disorder that has been discussed in this course.
Choose a case study from the Clinical Case Studies journal that discusses the selected disorder via the University Library.
Imagine this individual has entered the correctional system and needs a plan for the delivery of services while he or she is in the correctional facility, as well as a plan for re-entering into society once his or her time has been served. You have been asked to create and justify this plan using current research.
Write a 1,400- to 1,750-word paper to describe your plan, and provide a justification. Include the following:
Provide a brief summary of the individual, including demographic information, family and social history, the behavioral symptoms he or she is experiencing, and why the individual is now in the correctional system.
Describe appropriate interventions for this individual based on current research.
Determine any ethical considerations for working with this individual as they pertain to professional ethical codes.
Describe any biopsychosocial factors that may play a role in the possibility of recidivism for this individual.
Describe strategies for assisting this individual with the re-entry process.
Include a minimum of four sources to provide evidence that supports your plan.
Format your paper according to APA guidelines.
Submit your assignment.
Marijuana was decriminalized in Canada in October 2018. Since that time, many Canadian police departments have implemented policies regarding officials using marijuana that would probably shock many Americans. For example, the Vancouver Police Department says that it will not impose any restrictions on their officers for using marijuana while off-duty. The only policy they will enforce is that all officers must be fit for duty when they report to work. It essentially holds them to the same standards as after-hours alcohol consumption.
Changes are happening in the United States as well. In Atlanta, Georgia, which is a state where marijuana use is still illegal, the Atlanta Police Department will no longer ask applicants if they have smoked marijuana and consider its use as a factor in eligibility to join the force. They claim that they have lost too many qualified candidates when asking them about marijuana smoking.
Share your opinions, from both the perspective of a criminal justice administrator working in a state where marijuana use has been decriminalized and from the perspective of a private citizen, on whether criminal justice personnel (in states where it is legal) should be allowed to use marijuana while off-duty. Explain why you feel as you do.
Your journal entry must be at least 200 words in length. No references or citations are necessary.
After reading these chapters, you can see citizens often find it difficult to understand the police and the power they have. For
this assignment, you are to find two academic articles in the Criminal Justice database in the the Waldorf Online Library.
One of the academic articles must be about attacks on police officers by citizens. The other one should be related to officer
attacks or abuse of power towards citizens. Try to keep all academic articles within the last three years.
For both articles, write a paragraph summarizing the article. Then, please write the remainder of the review answering the

Unit VIII PowerPoint Presentation
For your final assignment, you will create an eight-slide PowerPoint training presentation about mindfulness within criminal justice departments. Imagine that your supervisor has asked you to present this training, in which you will be teaching your peers about the topics indicated below.
The overall goal is to explain why mindfulness and peacemaking are important to the future of your department. Keep in mind that you are training your peers. You should assume that they do not know much about the topic.
Be creative and have fun with this! A presentation should be visually engaging; you can add a mindfulness activity, pictures, video clips, or anything else you want.
Make certain to include the elements listed below in your presentation.
What is mindfulness, and how does it relate to criminal justice?
What is peacemaking, and how does it relate to criminal justice?
How do mindfulness and peacemaking relate to each other?
Summarize order keeping, and explain how it interferes with peacemaking.
You are required to use your textbook and at least one source from the Waldorf Online Library to support your presentation. Be sure that you cite any information with APA in-text citations, and include a reference slide at the end. The title slide and the reference slide do not count toward meeting the minimum slide requirement.
Do not utilize the notes section of your presentation. It is not required for this assignment. You are also not required to narrate your presentation. Ensure the presentation you create is your own authentic work. Ensure that you follow APA-style guidelines, and cite any resources that you use.
Remember to review the rubric, and compare it with your presentation before you submit it.
For information about creating a presentation using PowerPoint, please reach out to the Writing Center for assistance.
This is a case-study based paper, displaying that local cultural practices act as an obstacle in implementing an international protocol that may be best in practice.
You are expected to write about a real case (OR create an imaginary scenario) that displays an anthropological perspective. The scenario I would like to be written about includes a case related to the “courts” and “politics” in a given country known for its diversity and diverse practices. For example, a citizen living in “A” country but is of “B” descent may face issues in the courtroom and court processes. If ethnicity appears to be a determinant (or a larger social influence) in courtroom procedures, it would be highly likely for the ‘A’ descent ‘B’ citizens to seek for a judge of his own descent and manipulate the judicial process. Additionally, please expand on how fieldworkers should also consider that there are other minority groups, which could be regarded as “less serious threat” to the dominant group or groups in a country, and therefore one should never ignore the possible variations of official attitudes toward different ethnic minority groups in that country.
After discussing the real or imaginative case study, please focus on exactly who these cultural specifics impair international protocol. Additionally, demonstrate how you would prepare researchers who are working with these problematic factors of their study. Providing great detail on the case itself and mentioning cultural relativism would be useful in doing so.
In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:
Describe the relationship between societal needs and professional practice
You’ve just transferred to the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department). Your supervisor would like you to assess the ongoing policing issues surrounding homelessness through a community policing lens. This complex, long-standing issue needs a more proactive, positive approach.
You will be creating a written community plan for how your office should move forward in addressing the policing issues surrounding homelessness in Los Angeles from a community policing standpoint. Your plan should focus on the relationship between police legitimacy and public trust, public opinion and procedural justice, community policing, and policing adaptations. For the plan, create a written product with all sections identified that addresses all of the required elements using the Project Three Scenario:
Explain the link between police legitimacy and public trust as shown in the scenario. Answer the following questions in your explanation:
What issues of public trust arise?
What can be done to address issues of public trust?
Where is discretion being used?
Where could discretion be used more judiciously?
Describe how public opinion can be influenced by using procedural justice for addressing the issue of homelessness. Answer the following questions in your description:
How can procedural justice create a more positive public opinion about the LAPD’s work with the issues surrounding homelessness?
How can police transparency aid the LAPD in this situation?
Address police accountability through transparency to the public.
Address how specific techniques, such as technology usage, may aid the LAPD in this situation.
Explain how community policing concepts and principles can be applied to address the issue of homelessness as shown in the scenario.
What are the principles of community policing?
Why is community policing a valuable approach for today’s problems?
How can community policing be applied to the issues surrounding homelessness in Los Angeles?
Describe how the professional practice of policing for the LAPD changed in order to address the issue of homelessness in our current time. Answer the following questions in your description:
What specific tactics has the LAPD taken in the past?
What strategy of policing do these tactics show?
What to Submit
To complete this project, you must submit the following:
Create a 2- to 5-page written community plan for how your office should move forward in addressing the policing issues surrounding homelessness in Los Angeles from a community policing standpoint. The plan should address the rubric criteria listed above: police legitimacy and public trust, public opinion and procedural justice, community policing, and policing adaptations.
Answer the questions individually. The first 2 responses must be 300 words in length and the 3 question needs to be 225 words. I don’t need a title page or cover page..
