TOPIC: Needs Assessment
Throughout the remainder of the course, you will work on developing a training solution for an organization of your choosing. You should look through all the remaining assignments in the course to familiarize yourself with the requirements of the final project.
Your final deliverable will be a video of you conducting the training and with all the deliverables that you developed throughout the course.
Find an organization that you have access to (church, work, a volunteer org., business) that you can develop a training for.
Identify a performance problem or issue that exists within the organization.
Conduct a needs assessment to figure out what is causing the performance problem or issue you identified.
Use Exhibit 1.1 on the Needs-Assessment Process in Chapter 1 of the textbook to shape the structure of your needs assessment. Also ask questions and gather information on the intended training audience’s current level of knowledge and skill related to the issue or performance problem you are trying to solve.
In 750-1,000 words produce a written report of your needs assessment findings. Follow the structure found in Chapter 1 for “The Written Report.” Be detailed and specific about how you conducted your needs assessment, what you found out, and why you came to the conclusions you did.
Also describe where the intended learner’s current knowledge, attitudes, and skills are regarding the issue or performance problem you are trying to solve.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide.

Week 4 Assignment – Health Care Human Resources Management
Company mergers are very busy and challenging times for corporate leadership. The role that HR plays during a merger is often complex and far reaching. In this assignment, you write an executive brief that considers aspects of how an HR department might prioritize and operate to support the union of two companies.
How to Brief an Executive
There is no single correct way to brief an executive or other stakeholder. The final deliverable is your choice, but effective briefs have common elements; they should be clear, concise, relevant, well-structured, and provide decision-making information. Here are a couple of resources you may use to get started:
How to Brief an Executive: A podcast from the Communications Guys.
How to Write a Formal Business Report (With Examples): Hints from Indeed.
Imagine that Anchor Hospital, a 250-bed medical center, is merging with the similar-sized Saint Mary’s Hospital to better serve the needs of their metropolitan community. An administrative board has been formed to guide all aspects of the merger. They have asked all departments to submit an executive brief that states their roles, intended model of operations, and initial steps to build interdepartmental relationships.
The board’s primary concern for HR is how it will manage the merging of the workforces into a single, cohesive, and effective team. They want to understand HR’s primary role, guiding principles, and application of current practice. Specifically, they want your vision for the following:
A merger-related current best practice or trend that is being successfully employed by HR departments.
HR’s primary role in assimilating the workforces for the two hospitals.
The HR management model to be followed.
How to foster relationships between HR and department managers.
Write a 3–4-page executive brief that address the following merger-related items:
Recommend a relevant HR trend or practice that would be useful to consider as part of this merger. Justify your recommendation.
Analyze HR’s primary role(s) as a strategic corporate partner in merging the workforces of the organizations.
Recommend an HRM model that would effectively steer the joining of each organization’s employees into a single, cohesive workforce. Justify your recommendation.
Recommend two initial steps that HR should initiate to develop an effective relationship between HR and management. Justify your recommendation.
Resources: Use four sources to support your writing. Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate. Cite each source listed on your source page at least one time within your assignment. For help with research, writing, and citation, access the library or review library guides.
SWS: This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:
Determine strategies for HR operations including defining organizational roles and relations with leadership.
A process recording is a written tool field education experience students, field instructors, and faculty use to examine the dynamics of social work interactions in time. Process recordings can help in developing and refining interviewing and intervention skills. By conceptualizing and organizing ongoing activities with social work clients, you are able to clarify the purpose of interviews and interventions, identify personal and professional strengths and weaknesses, and improve self-awareness. The process recording is also a useful tool in exploring the interpersonal dynamics and values operating between you and the client system through an analysis of filtering the process used in recording a session.
For this Assignment, you will submit a process recording of your field education experiences specific to this week.
The Assignment (2–4 pages):
Provide a transcript of what happened during your field education experience, including a dialogue of interaction with a client.
Explain your interpretation of what occurred in the dialogue, including social work practice or theories.
Describe your reactions and/or any issues related to your interaction with a client during your field education experience.
Explain how you applied social work practice skills when performing the activities during your process recording.
By Day 7
Submit you Assignment.
Note: You should also share your process recordings with your field instructor during your individual supervision.
Note: Adherence to confidentiality is required in your process recordings. Do not include real names of clients, supervisors, or social workers with whom you may come into contact during your social work field education experience. Omit any personal identifiers when detailing the interaction with your social work clients.

Unit 6.1 DB: School Violence
Unit 6.1 DB: School ViolenceAddressing today’s problem with school violence is a complicated one. Use this Discussion Board thread to suggest and explain how you would implement change in school systems to make them safer. Was bullying or disrespectful treatment of a child a rooted cause for these horrible actions? What can schools do to better address the treatment of others within their school districts? Try and use some new and innovative ideas to make our children safer, yet not turn our schools into detention facilities.
By now, you should be aware that the findings from a research study are only part of the story. As a consumer, hoping to inform practice by use of an evidence base, you want to know much more. A sound research study includes all the steps highlighted in previous weeks: reviewing existing literature, focusing a research question, choosing a qualitative or quantitative method for answering the question, designing the study including selection of data collection procedures and/or measures, procedures used, data analysis plan, and findings. In addition, the study commonly discusses how ethical concerns were addressed and acknowledges the limitations of the study. For this assignment, you review a published research study with two purposes in mind:
Observing the structure and content of the article
Comparing the content of the article to the recommended content of sections for a research study.
By Day 7
Submit a critique and review of the article, which includes the title page and the reference list. Follow the guidelines below:
Use the quantitative or qualitative research article that you located and that your instructor approved as part of the Week 5 assignment.
Provide an APA reference for the article you select.
If you selected a quantitative research study, use the “Quantitative Article Review and Critique. If you selected a qualitative study, use the “Qualitative Article Review and Critique.” Respond to all the questions.
Upon hearing the stories of sometimes horrific atrocities clients or client families have experienced, you as a social worker may find yourself confronting existential questions such as Why? For example, Why do horrible events happen to good people? Why do people abuse their children?
Trying to make sense of such trauma is not easy, and you may seek answers to these existential questions your whole life. And yet, there are opportunities for growth despite trauma for both clients and social workers. This is known as post-traumatic growth, where a renewed sense purpose or a more profound outlook on life is the by-product.
In this Discussion, you work to seek meaning from the trauma your clients experience and the subsequent healing you help your clients achieve in your social work practice.
Read about trauma-informed social work, and read this article listed in the Learning Resources: Vis, J.-A., & Boynton, H. M. (2008). Spirituality and transcendent meaning making: possibilities for enhancing posttraumatic growth. By Day 3
In 1 sentence, identify an existential question with which you have grappled in relation to a client who has been traumatized.
Reflect on your fieldwork, or perhaps identify an existential question that might arise in working with the client in the case study you have selected throughout the course.
In 3 to 4 brief sentences, describe where there is potential for growth for the client as a result of the trauma.
In 3 to 4 brief sentences, explain where there is potential for growth for you, the social worker, as a result of listening to the client’s stories and bearing witness to their trauma.
Describe any challenges you may experience between the meaning you hold based on your personal beliefs and working within the client’s potentially different belief framework.
